The new Prime Video series "We Were Liars" has been generating buzz since its release on June 18th, 2025. The series, based on E. Lockhart's novel of the same name, follows the wealthy Sinclair family as they spend another summer on the fictional Beechwood Island. The series features gorgeous beach houses, family drama, and romantic tension, but it's the jaw-dropping twist ending that has captured the attention of viewers. At the end of the first season, it is revealed that something horrible happened to the "Liars" - Gat (Shubham Maheshwari), Mirren (Esther McGregor), and Johnny (Joseph Zada) - which is why Cadence (Emily Alyn Lind), the show's narrator, had to suppress it. The ending is heartbreaking and features a supernatural twist, as the summer of fun turns into a tragic event. The series starts with Cadence, the eldest grandchild of the Sinclair family, crushing on family friend Gat. She, Gat, and her cousins Johnny and Mirren enjoy weeks of summer fun until Cadence's grandmother Tipper (Wendy Crewson) dies, causing tensions over inheritance to emerge between the parents and the powerful, wealthy grandfather Harris (David Morse). The following year, it is revealed that something mysterious and terrible happened to the family in the final weeks of the previous summer. Cadence was in some sort of accident at the end of her 16th summer that she can't remember, and none of the other Liars or her other family members will tell her what happened. Cadence is desperate to learn what happened to her despite everyone warning her that she doesn't want to know. Even Cadence's own mind seems to be hiding the truth, as every time she gets close to finding out what happened, she's hit with a migraine or worse. Her mother Penny (Caitlin FitzGerald) forbids her from seeking answers, but as the summer progresses, memories surface and Cadence starts to recall events from the previously forgotten summer. After a season of red herrings and wrong turns, Cadence's memories finally patch together, revealing what happened to her - and why. One of the most shocking moments in the series is when the Liars choose to burn down their family home. This decision is a result of the events that transpired during their 16th summer. Cadence sees her mother Penny, as well as her aunts Bess (Candice King) and Carrie (Mamie Gummer) fighting for their father's affection and ultimately money. Each woman had squandered their trust fund over the years and needed financial help. Seeing how the women fought over their father's affection and money led to a decision to burn down their family home as a way to escape their past and start anew. Overall, "We Were Liars" is a heartbreaking and thought-provoking series that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end. The combination of family drama, romantic tension, and a supernatural twist makes for an unforgettable experience.
