Mario Kart World has been review bombed by many frustrated gamers following the release of the version 1.1.2 update. The Mario Kart World update made some controversial changes to online racing, and players have voiced their concerns and frustrations through user reviews.

The version 1.1.2 update for Mario Kart World was released on June 25, and although the patch notes listed some minor fixes, there was one major change that has not gone over well for many vocal Nintendo fans. The patch notes stated that the courses included when selecting "Random" in a wireless VS Race have been adjusted, which actually meant that racing on intermission courses would become a more common occurrence online. Before the update was released, entering an online VS Race via the "Random" option would enter players in a three-lap race. In the absence of three-lap races, intermission races require players to travel to the track and complete a single lap once they've arrived. Intermission races have not been popular in the community, and it is becoming more common due to the update's changes, which has led to some backlash from the community, taking the form of review bombing in the first weekend following the update's release.

Many negative user reviews have flooded the Metacritic page as fans share their frustrations about the update, and some Mario Kart World players are also asking for features from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to return, such as Grand Prix. Other players are demanding that Nintendo adds options to allow players to enjoy single tracks with their friends, without the worry of needing to play intermission races.

In addition, Mario Kart World has 220 mixed user reviews as of June 27, so roughly 30% of the game's total user reviews have not been positive.

Although Nintendo has not been known to directly react to review bombing, the feedback from players could be important for future Mario Kart World updates. Mario Kart World is a title that could be supported well throughout the Nintendo Switch 2's lifecycle, similarly to how Nintendo updated and released DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the original Switch.
