Indie Co-Op Climbing Game Peak Soars to Success on Steam, Selling Over 1 Million Copies in Six Days

A brand-new indie co-op climbing game called Peak is making waves on Steam, selling over 1 million copies in just six days. The game, developed by Landfall and Aggro Crab, was released on June 16 and has since become one of the most-played games on Steam during the weekend following its release.

Peak is a cooperative climbing game for up to four players set on an island where players assume the role of a stranded group of nature scouts who must navigate procedurally generated terrain. The game features survival mechanics like limited stamina and item scavenging, along with additions like proximity chat, which enables players to coordinate every move while ramping up the already chaotic experience.

Peak's success on Twitch is due in part to its hilarious moments of failure and high replayability, following in the footsteps of similar titles like Phasmophobia, Lethal Company, Only Up!, and REPO, which offer fun co-op experiences for both players and viewers.

Taking to BlueSky, developer Aggro Crab celebrated the 1 million copies sold and thanked players for supporting this co-op Steam indie game. According to SteamDB, Peak’s revenue is so strong that it even surpassed AAA titles like Dune: Awakening, Dead by Daylight, and Elden Ring: Nightreign, among others—though that’s also thanks to its low price of $3.99, now on sale for just $2.47.

At the time of writing, Peak boasts 62,461 active players and saw its highest peak 24 hours ago with 102,799 users. Some players responded to Aggro Crab on BlueSky, praising Peak’s gameplay and features, highlighting how fun the game is, and pointing to its low price as one major reason for its success.

Hot on the heels of the game’s release, Aggro Crab pushed out a patch to fix major Peak bugs and performance issues. The developer admitted it didn’t expect such a large number of players jumping into the game, so it’s now doing its best to polish the experience ASAP. Aggro addressed one major concern—the Tropics crash on AMD—which apparently had to do with the grass. The developer has disabled it for now until it comes up with a definite solution.

The update also introduced “Lobby Mode,” a new setting that allows players to set their game to “Invite Only,” preventing strangers from joining, and a new option to “Give Up” when passed out. While Aggro Crab’s new game keeps killing it on Steam, co-op fans should definitely check out what Peak’s features and mechanics bring to the table.
