Trump circulates 2018 video to push radical agenda for America's financial future

President Donald Trump has put in a lot of effort to cement his position as an aggressively pro-crypto administrator.

First, he signed an executive order to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve. Next, the securities regulator under him began dropping one case after another against crypto exchanges it had once sued for securities violations. Recently, he signed the GENIUS Act to regulation stablecoins — the first major law in the U.S. regarding crypto regulation.

Now, the president seems to be on a mission to educate the whole of the U.S. about the Bitcoin revolution.

On July 20, Trump posted a video titled “greatest Bitcoin explanation of all time” on his Truth Social platform. The video features Peter Van Valkenburgh, director of research at CoinCenter, a group focused on the public policy issues affecting cryptocurrency and public blockchains, testifying before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee in 2018.

Van Valkenburgh's iconic testimony

Around then, it had been around nine years since Bitcoin's launch, and though not everyone understood it, the leading cryptocurrency had already gained both popularity and notoriety.

To address the conundrum, Valkenburgh gave a testimony in the House in which he articulated the digital asset's position as a tool of financial independence.

Now, what is a Bitcoin?

Valkenburgh explained in the testimony:

"It’s simple. It lets you send and receive value to and from anyone in the world using nothing more than a computer and an Internet connection.”

An individual can transfer Bitcoin to another in a completely different part of the world, and notions like nationality, race, religion, gender, sex, or creditworthiness simply don't matter, he remarked.

Earlier, digital money transfer required the involvement of centralized intermediaries such as the central banks, private banks, payment processing firms, etc. Bitcoin, in contrast, is "the world’s first globally accessible public money," he underlined.

Though Bitcoin isn't perfect, it is as significant for freedom, prosperity, and human flourishing as the birth of the internet, Valkenburgh said in the testimony.

With his social media posts, Trump seems to be pushing his radical financial agenda for the U.S. which — unlike the Joe Biden administration — is more than receptive to embracing the crypto economy.
