Space Marine Remaster is Now Offering Refunds

ValerieGames2025-06-292770

All Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition players on Steam can now get a refund for the game for a limited time, regardless of playtime. Many were left disappointed by Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition, and developer SneakyBox has acted fast to ensure unsatisfied players can get their money back.

The Space Marine remaster was flooded with negative reviews in the days after its release, with players pointing to the steep $40 price tag, technical problems, and less-than-impressive visual updates as their reasoning. The rough reception hasn't slowed down, either, with the game currently sitting at "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam, just 29% of those being positive. It's not just players who feel this way, either, with only 55% of critics recommending the game according to review aggregator site OpenCritic.

In a new post on Steam, developer SneakyBox has looked to somewhat stem the bleeding by confirming that all current Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Master Crafted Edition owners will be eligible for a full refund until July 10, regardless of playtime. Players must apply for the Steam refund before the end of the ongoing Summer Sale. In addition to this, SneakyBox has added a new 50% upgrade discount for players who already own Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - Anniversary Edition. Players who bought the Master Crafted Edition at full price while owning the Anniversary Edition can refund the game during its extended refund window, and repurchase it at the 50% discount.

In the post, SneakyBox did acknowledge that "this situation has been frustrating for some of you, and we're sorry for the confusion it's caused." In the meantime, the developer confirmed that more updates are coming over the next few weeks "to improve the experience across the board" in the controversial Space Marine remaster. Hopefully, this will bring the game closer to what players expected to receive on its release a few weeks back.

While the Space Marine remaster hasn't quite gone according to plan, the series is still in a strong place at the moment following the huge success last year of Space Marine 2. It was so successful, in fact, that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 was announced just months after the launch of its predecessor, which was hugely exciting news for fans of the series.
