Hyatt Hotels has unveiled plans for a transformation of the former Shangri-La Vancouver in Canada into a luxury Park Hyatt hotel.

Currently operating as Hyatt Vancouver Downtown Alberni, the property will undergo a multi-million-dollar redesign to enhance its guest rooms, lobby, public spaces, and spa before joining the Park Hyatt brand.

The Park Hyatt Vancouver hotel is scheduled to open in 2026.

Hyatt Canada development and owner relations vice president Scott Richer said: “Reimagining this iconic luxury hotel will enable Hyatt to thoughtfully expand our luxury portfolio in Canada.

“We’re excited for our plan to introduce the Park Hyatt brand to Vancouver in 2026, once we further elevate the hotel with refined design and signature experiences for our guests and World of Hyatt members.

"Together with Park Hyatt Toronto, the future Park Hyatt Vancouver will strengthen Hyatt’s luxury brand presence in Canada’s top urban markets and will offer the most discerning travellers a personalised experience in an intimate and enriching setting.”

The hotel is situated in Vancouver's tallest building, offering 119 rooms with views of the harbour, coastal mountains, and cityscape. It also features contemporary design and wellness amenities.

Upon its rebranding, the hotel will mark the first Park Hyatt in Vancouver and the fifth Hyatt property in British Columbia.

This expansion is indicative of Hyatt's growth strategy in one of Canada's prime leisure and group markets.

There are 47 Park Hyatt hotels worldwide while Hyatt Hotels' portfolio features more than 1,450 properties in 79 countries across six continents.

Additionally, earlier this year, Hyatt Hotels' collaboration with Princes Gates Hotel Limited Partnership led to Hotel X Toronto joining the Destination by Hyatt brand, marking the brand's Canadian debut.

"Vancouver hotel to become Park Hyatt property after redesign" was originally created and published by Hotel Management Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
