Rotten Banana: ’57 Chevy Packs Twin Turbos And 1300-HP

Go to any car show with classics and you’ll probably see at least one ’57 Chevy, but it won’t be like the Rotten Banana. Built by the Roadster Shop, it looks rough and like it might be packing a little bit of juice, but it’s in fact a 1,300-horsepower sleeper.

Do you think this barn find 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28 is a deal?

We love sleepers because it’s great to see someone who thinks they have a fast car go up against something that to them doesn’t look impressive, then get their doors blown off. Plus, when you drive a sleeper you don’t have people trying to race you constantly or swipe your ride.

The beat up yellow exterior does look like a rotten banana and while it will fool most, even with the visible roll cage inside we don’t think most enthusiasts would think much of this Chevy.

All the magic is under the hood with twin 66mm turbos and a Chevy long block crate engine, although we’re not entirely sure which one. The intake has been custom fabricated to look period correct, which would throw off a number of people at a car show.

Even more interesting, there’s a Holley intake manifold with a Tick Performance intercooler brick in it. Since the Tri-Fives don’t have the largest grille, the nose isn’t the best spot for an intercooler, so this addresses that packaging problem.

Of course, this thing rides on a Roadster Shop chassis, specifically the Fast Track with all the standard trimmings. That’s right, without any upgrades the suspension and everything else handles 1,300-hp like a champ.

In other words, you can get on the accelerator and the Chevy isn’t wobbling and walking all over the road. You can feel the power as the car shoots straight as an arrow in the direction you’re steering.

Watch this car in action here.

The Rotten Banana featuring a ’57 Chevy with two turbos and 130O-HP is truly an engineering marvel—defying the boundaries of what was once considered vintage hot rodding, channeling immense power through its classic frame to create something both audaciously retro yet technically advanced.
