Unfortunately for fans hoping to see another remake of the original Resident Evil game, the latest word is that such a project is not in development. The original Resident Evil coined the term survival-horror and popularized the genre. It kickstarted one of gaming's most successful and longest-lasting franchises, with Capcom still releasing new Resident Evil games to this day.
A mere six years after the original Resident Evil game was released, Capcom decided to remake it for the GameCube. The 2002 Resident Evil remake earned a great deal of acclaim for its fresh take on the 1996 original, offering new story details, fresh gameplay ideas, and stunning graphics that still hold up to this day. Lately, Capcom has had a great deal of success remaking classic Resident Evil games with an over-the-shoulder camera similar to RE4 as opposed to the fixed-camera angle used by the OG Resident Evil and its remake, leading some fans to push for the classic game to be remade yet again.

Don't Expect to Play a Resident Evil 5 Remake Any Time Soon
The latest info on the Resident Evil 5 remake suggests fans will be waiting quite a while for the game.
PostsThere were some rumors that another remake of the original Resident Evil was in the works, but those were shut down. Now, reliable Resident Evil leaker AestheticGamer has said that, last they heard, a Resident Evil 1 remake is not currently in development. They reiterated their claims that the next Resident Evil remakes will be Zero and Code: Veronica. However, they did say that they "think" a remake of the original Resident Evil "will happen eventually," but with Zero and Code: Veronica next in line, it would be years before such a project materialized.
Resident Evil 1 Remake Not in Development
A remake of the original Resident Evil game already exists, but there would be some value in remaking it again in the style of the more recent entries. Having all the classic Resident Evil games in the same style would make them more accessible to newcomers that may not enjoy the fixed-camera angles and more dated aspects of the original and the 2002 remake.
CloseTime will tell if Capcom ever decides to move forward with another Resident Evil remake, but the good news is that the remastered version of the 2002 remake is readily available to play on modern platforms. The Resident Evil HD Remaster is available for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, meaning anyone with a modern gaming console can play the classic game complete with new controls, achievement support, and other improvements. The same goes for Resident Evil Zero, so fans don't have to wait for the rumored remake of that game to revisit it on modern platforms.
