Renee Rapp stuns in her latest Instagram post — and subtly pays homage to a legendary R&B singer in the process.

Rapp has quickly carved out a name for herself in both the entertainment and music industries. After a breakout role as Regina George in Broadway’s Mean Girls, Rapp transitioned into television with HBO Max’s The Sex Lives of College Girls and dropped her debut album Snow Angel in 2023. In 2024, she revived her role as Regina George in the remake of the 2004 film with the same title, but with a musical twist.

Currently, the 25-year-old artist is promoting her sophomore studio album, BITE ME, which is set to be released on August 1 on all major streaming platforms. So far, she has released two singles, "Leave Me Alone" and "Mad," on May 27 and June 11, respectively.

On Friday afternoon, the rising pop singer posted a photo dump to Instagram filled with random photos, video clips and selfies. Rapp paired the post with Etta James’s emotional 1960 track, “All I Could Do Was Cry,” subtly paying tribute to the legendary soul singer.

James, often referred to as the “Matriarch of R&B,” was known for her unmistakable voice and deeply emotional performances. With classics like “At Last" and “I’d Rather Go Blind,” the singer left a mark on soul, blues and rock music. Her influence and work continue to be seen through generations of artists, including Rapp. James passed away at 73 years old on January 20, 2012.

After Rapp’s highly anticipated second studio album release, she’ll hit the road shortly after, headlining a nationwide tour throughout September and October to celebrate the release.
