Marvel Rivals: Blades Return in Season 3 Speculation Heats Up

A cryptic social media post from the developers of Marvel Rivals has ignited speculation that the popular vampire hunter, Blade, could finally be added to the game in Season 3. NetEase Games has been expanding the roster of playable heroes and villains with post-launch content releases, with the latest introducing the AI menace Ultron to threaten the Hellfire Gala on Krakoa Island at the end of Season 2.

Blade has been a fan-favorite character for some time, and NetEase has been teasing his arrival for some time. He was first seen in Season 1, where he was seemingly imprisoned by Dracula on the Central Park map. In Season 2, players could spot the famed vampire hunter taking a nap near one of the spawn locations on the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda map. However, the recent Marvel Rivals June 19 update has removed Blade, leaving an empty sleeping bag where he once rested.

Many fans have taken this change as a sign that Blade will soon be playable in Marvel Rivals, and a new Twitter post from executive producer Danny Koo has added more credence to that speculation. Koo responded to a post from the official Marvel Rivals Twitter account, which shared a screenshot of Jeff the Land Shark looking in confusion at Blade’s empty sleeping bag and asking where the Daywalker could have gone. Koo shared this in a quote post, simply adding three thinking emojis that have left gamers buzzing about Blade possibly being playable in Season 3.

While his standalone MCU film has been wrought with delays and production issues, Blade has seen a boost in interest thanks to Wesley Snipes’s surprise return as the supernatural hero in last year’s Deadpool and Wolverine. Gaming-wise, Blade was most recently a playable character in 2022’s Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and will naturally headline the upcoming Marvel’s Blade from Bethesda and Redfall developer Arkane Studios.

Before that, signs point to Blade making his next playable video game appearance in Marvel Rivals as part of Season 3, which will begin once Season 2 wraps up on July 10. Blade’s Marvel Rivals move set is still unknown at this time, but a leak hinted that the Daywalker will be a combat-focused Duelist who takes down opponents using his iconic vampire-killing sword and handguns. Now that Blade is fully rested, evildoers might want to think twice before terrorizing the innocent in Marvel Rivals if Koo’s latest tease leads to the monster slayer’s full debut.
