Popular game director Hideo Kojima has revealed why VTuber Usada Pekora is featured in the recently released Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, saying he simply likes the VTuber and that’s reason enough to add her to his game. While many thought the VTuber would have just a cameo in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Usada Pekora does much more than that, and the director recently gave a rather simple explanation for it.
Usada Pekora is a popular Japanese VTuber affiliated with Hololive Production, debuting in 2019 as part of Hololive's third generation. In May, it was revealed that Usada Pekora would appear as a Prepper NPC in Death Stranding 2, through a clip where the VTuber’s voice is heard. Kojima Productions had stated that players would be able to encounter Pekora in-game alongside many other celebrity cameos, though it didn’t explain exactly how and when. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach just came out on June 26, and the sequel is being praised with overwhelmingly positive reviews as it builds on the things that made the original game such a hit. Now, Kojima has revealed why he decided to bring the VTuber into the cast.

Hideo Kojima Had to Turn Down Cameo Requests in Death Stranding 2
A new report states that after scanning so many people for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Hideo Kojima had to turn down half of the cameos.
PostsDuring a recent interview, acclaimed video game director Hideo Kojima was asked about Pekora and the reason behind the VTuber’s appearance in the game. The director provided a simple yet concise answer: “If I like something, I will add it in [to the game].” He admitted he would see Pekora playing Death Stranding and think that was fun, which, for the director, seemed to be reason enough to incorporate the VTuber into the game.
Death Stranding 2 Features Usada Pekora Simply Because Kojima Likes the VTuber
CloseWhat’s interesting about Usada Pekora’s appearance in Death Stranding 2 is that the VTuber doesn’t just have a cameo; she has a character in the game’s main quest. Players will encounter Pekora during “Order 25: Deliver Piping Hot Pizza to the Data Scientist,” where they have to deliver a pizza in 10 minutes. In addition to Pekora, the game features other celebrity cameos such as Conan O’Brien, Ma Dong-seok, Jon McElroy, and more.
Following the game’s tremendous success, Kojima thanked Death Stranding 2 fans for the positive launch responses, admitting how challenging the development journey had been and adding that he even “truly felt like we might never finish this game.” As players continue to dive into the highly awaited sequel, Kojima Productions has recently rolled out a Death Stranding 2 patch to address an issue that caused the game to crash when delivering certain pieces of cargo.
