James Gunn, the co-head of DC Universe, has addressed casting rumors about an Andor star as Wonder Woman / Diana Prince in a new interview. The character was previously portrayed by Gal Gadot in the DC Extended Universe. There have been reports that Gadot would not reprise the role in the DCU.

James Gunn on Adria Arjona’s chances to be cast as Wonder Woman

Gunn recently gave an informative interview to ExtraTV and discussed rumors about Andor actor Adria Arjona being cast as Wonder Woman in the DCU. The interviewer jokingly asked how much fans should read into the prospects of a popular actress being cast as Wonder Woman if Gunn follows them on social media. The filmmaker answered with an equal lightheartedness, “50%,” before dismissing the notion with a “no.”

The Superman director subsequently addressed Arjona’s casting rumors as Wonder Woman and used it as an example. He said, “I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and said], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman.’ She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”

Gunn proceeded to clarify that he had been following Arjona for a long time. “She was in a movie that I made seven years ago,” he explained, adding, “We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.”

The movie Gunn was referring to was 2016’s action-horror feature The Belko Experiment. Gunn penned the screenplay of the movie and produced it with the other half of what is now the DCU leadership, Peter Safran. Greg McLean directed the movie. Arjona played Leandra, the primary love interest of the movie’s protagonist.

At the time of this article’s composition, DCU has two projects directly associated with the Wonder Woman lore from the DC Comics currently in development. One of them is Paradise Lost, an HBO Max / Max TV series reportedly set on the island of Themyscira before Diana’s birth. The other is the untitled DCU Wonder Woman movie. Neither project currently has a release date.
