WARWICK – What are Rhode Islanders favorite places to fly?

Well, the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics keeps track of such things, so we checked where were the 10 favorite nonstop destinations in the U.S. for flights originating from Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport. The federal statistics only track scheduled airline flights, so charter destinations won't be in the Top 10.

And this list shows the destination airports, so two on this list serve Chicago – O'Hare and Midway – and two are often used to reach Washington, D.C – Reagan National and Baltimore/Washington – so you can decide whether this is a Top 10 list or a Top 8 list.

10. Fort Lauderdale

A total of 68,000 people flew from Green to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in 2024.

The “Venice of America,” this southern Florida destination is famous for its canals and 24 miles of coastline to explore.

A total of 76,000 people flew from Green to Tampa International Airport in 2024.

If you’re heading to Tampa, there’s Busch Gardens, the city and beaches to explore, and it also puts you close to Clearwater and St. Petersburg if you want to spend your trip on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico.

8. Philadelphia

A total of 84,000 people flew from Green to Philadelphia International Airport in 2024.

One of several cities that can rightly call itself the Cradle of American Liberty, Philadelphia boasts the Liberty Bell; Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence was debated and signed in 1776 and the steps made famous in the movie "Rocky," along with its share of museums and places to eat.

Voted the best large city by Conde Nast readers six years in a row (2017 to 2021), Chicago is a favorite for people who like a city vibe with plenty of things to do.

A total of 90,000 people flew from Green to Chicago O'Hare International Airport in 2024.

A total of 143,000 people flew from Green to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 2024.

A thriving city, Atlanta is packed with things to do, including the largest aquarium in the United States, Zoo Atlanta, the World of Coca-Cola, and lots of neighborhoods, museums and restaurants to spend some time at.

4. Washington, D.C.

A total of 179,000 people flew from Green to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in 2024.

There are the museums, the monuments, the history, and, of course, the business of our national government, which all pull people toward Washington, D.C., for a trip.

3. Charlotte

A total of 222,000 people flew from Green to Charlotte Douglas International Airport in 2024.

With the slogan “Charlotte’s got a lot,” there’s plenty to do inthe Queen City from white water rafting in manmade white-water rivers to grabbing a drink at one of the many bars and breweries. It also promises Southern charm and hospitality.

2. Baltimore

A total of 233,000 people flew from Green to Baltimore/Washington International Airport in 2024.

Nicknamed Charm City, Baltimore is full of creative energy when exploring the different neighborhoods that are packed with art (including the largest public collection of Matisse in the world), shopping and cultural sites.

1. Orlando

Cinderella Castle had a makeover, with new royal colors and embellishments, at Magic Kingdom.

A total of 250,000 people flew from Green to Orlando International Airport in 2024.

Disney World, Universal Studios, and just a one-hour drive from the popular cruise ship port Port Canaveral, there are a lot of big-ticket destinations in Orlando, so it makes sense that this destination tops Rhode Islanders' list.

Two more airports

Coincidentally, the feds track traffic at two other of Rhode Island's six state-owned airports: Block Island and Westerly. The most popular scheduled airline destination for each is the other, and there's only one destination on each list.
