Hyatt Hotels has announced the opening of The Wildbirch Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska, marking the city's first lifestyle boutique hotel and its newest lodging option in 20 years. The 252-key property falls under the JdV by Hyatt brand, a collection of independent hotels located in urban destinations.

The Wildbirch Hotel offers on-site dining, meetings and events facilities, and an outdoor gathering space with scenic views of Mount Susitna and Knik Arm. The hotel's signature restaurant, Crimson, serves Alaskan-inspired dishes with Pan-American Latin flair, while Canteen Coffee Co. offers coffee drinks and grab-and-go food options in the lobby. This fall, The Undertap craft beer tasting room will open at the hotel, with options to host private gatherings.

According to Hyatt, The Wildbirch Hotel is a "destination itself," anchoring Anchorage's West Fourth Avenue shopping and dining corridor. The hotel is part of a revitalization of downtown Anchorage that co-owner and former mayor Mark Begich and his partners are undertaking.

The opening of The Wildbirch Hotel is part of Hyatt's broader push in the luxury and lifestyle segment. The company has recently opened hotels under its Thompson Hotels, Andaz, and Grand Hyatt brands, as well as acquiring lifestyle operator Standard International to scale its portfolio. Last month, Hyatt launched Unscripted by Hyatt, an upscale collection brand designed to bring independent properties and small portfolios under its Essentials portfolio.

Marriott International is also expanding its presence in the lifestyle segment by launching a collection brand, Series by Marriott, last month and acquiring international lifestyle brand CitizenM in April.
