Deadly Road Rage Fight Teaches A Valuable Lesson

Everyone knows road rage is dumb and yet so many people still engage in it for a number of reasons. But a recent deadly road rage shooting in Tempe, Arizona provides an important lesson in why road rage is something you should avoid at all costs, among other things.

Caught on camera: motorcyclist get dragged by driver in shocking road rage case.

First, the facts: Dustin Jackson was in a GMC Sierra and Steven Bevan was in a Dodge Challenger when some sort of road rage exchange happened between the two. As the Mopar was sitting in front of the truck at a light which had turned green, Jackson honked to get Bevan to go.

After the two vehicles went through the intersection, Bevan pulled in front of Jackson and stopped his car. Then he got out, approached the driver’s window of the GMC, and that’s when Jackson shot the other man one time in the chest, killing him, reports Fox 10.

Details about what happened and why is the subject of an ongoing court case, which might take some time to sort out. Jackson has been hit with two felony charges: first-degree murder and drive-by shooting. His bond was set at $1 million.

While it’s tragic Bevan lost his life and Jackson now might spend a good portion of his behind bars, there’s more. Both men had their children with them at the time. That means Jackson’s 6-year-old daughter witnessed him killing another man. Bevan’s eight- and nine-year-old sons saw their father killed, one of them recording the horrific incident which will be seared in their memories forever.

Getting into a road rage incident and escalating it is dumb because you never know what the other person is capable of doing. Doing that with your kids in the car is even worse because of what they might witness or what harm could befall them.

Not that anyone should get into a road rage incident, but sometimes you can’t help it as someone is raging out at you even as you stay calm. We will say time and again that in these incidents nothing good comes from anyone exiting their vehicle. In fact, that’s usually when things turn especially violent.

Learn from this tragedy and don’t repeat the same mistakes.
