Cadillac has been given the final approval for it to launch into the FIA Formula One World Championship in March 2026. That means the field of teams expands one more from the current ten, turning up the heat of competition slightly.
BMW Motorrad has a radical race-inspired new concept bike.
The change also comes at the same time as a whole slate of regulatory updates, shaking things up considerably for the 2026 season.
In an official press release, Cadillac says its teaming up with TWG Motorsports “creates a distinctly American team with unique attributes.”
The new Team Principal of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team has been announced as Graeme Lowdon, who has an extensive history in F1. It will be interesting to see which drivers he recruits and what kind of team he shapes as the new season approaches.
While Cadillac will need to source some parts from other teams, the goal is to make it a “full works” team the develops its own chassis and power units for F1. That’s what TWG GM Performance Power Units LLC has been created to do and Russ O’Blenes has been named as CEO of that entity.
But the path ahead is going to be fraught with challenges, especially when it comes to competing at the level of F1. That’s what makes this new venture so exciting to watch unfold. While some surely are cheering for Cadillac, GM, and TWG to fail at F1, many others are hoping they add some extra spice into the premier motorsport.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem seems rather excited about the addition of Cadillac to F1. “The Cadillac Formula 1 Team’s presence in the paddock will inspire future competitors and fans,” he said. “Their entry strengthens our mission to push motorsport’s boundaries at the highest level.”
