Star Wars Battlefront 2: A Testament to Fan Passion and Enduring Appeal on Steam

Despite ending support for Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 2020, the game continues to set new player count records on Steam. Just a month after setting a new all-time peak of 18,634 concurrent players, the game has once again smashed through its previous record. According to SteamDB, which tracks everything related to Steam's backend, Star Wars Battlefront 2 achieved a total of 20,311 concurrent players on the platform on June 20 (or June 21, depending on the timezone). The sudden player resurgence kicked off shortly after the finale of Andor Season 2 premiered in early May, conveniently around the same time as May the Fourth, a popular Star Wars holiday. Fans have been petitioning for EA to green-light a third entry in the Battlefront series, and their efforts have not gone unnoticed. However, despite the community's ongoing efforts, it seems unlikely that Star Wars Battlefront 3 will happen. Last month, EA shocked fans when it was revealed that it had canceled its upcoming Black Panther game and plans to focus on a small handful of franchises, which include Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends. While EA still intends to fund Motive's new Iron Man game and a third Star Wars: Jedi game from Respawn Entertainment, the Battlefront series was nowhere to be seen. The developer behind the 2015 and 2017 Star Wars Battlefront games, Mats Helge Holm, recently made a comment on Reddit saying that he and his ex-colleagues "want to get the gang back together" for Star Wars Battlefront 3. However, this decision ultimately lies in the hands of EA as the IP owners. Despite the setback for fans, the game's continued success on Steam is a testament to its popularity and the enduring appeal of the Star Wars universe. With its impressive graphics, diverse gameplay modes, and rich storytelling, Star Wars Battlefront 2 remains a favorite among fans and a must-play for any Star Wars enthusiast. In conclusion, while EA may not be interested in green-lighting a third Battlefront game at the moment, it's clear that the community's passion for the series is still alive and well. With continued efforts from fans and the support of former developers, perhaps one day we will see a new entry in the Battlefront series. Until then, we can continue to enjoy Star Wars Battlefront 2 and its impressive player count records on Steam.
