BBVA Encourages Clients to Invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum: A Shift in Financial Advice
BBVA, a Spanish lender, is encouraging its wealth clients to allocate 3%-7% of their portfolios to cryptocurrencies, according to an executive at the bank. The head of digital and blockchain solutions at BBVA, Philippe Meyer, shared this information during the DigiAssets conference in London. Meyer stated that the bank began advising clients on bitcoin (BTC) in September last year, as reported by Reuters. He added that while the riskier profile allows up to 7% of portfolios to be invested in crypto, the current advice applies to bitcoin and ether (ETH). The bank plans to expand this advice to other cryptocurrencies later this year. This news from BBVA is significant as it is actively advising its clients to invest in crypto, unlike many other major financial institutions that have shown a more cautious attitude toward cryptocurrency investments in 2025 compared to previous years. However, BBVA did not immediately respond to CoinDesk's request for comment. The image accompanying this article shows a person holding a smartphone with a cryptocurrency wallet app open, symbolizing the growing interest in digital assets among consumers and investors. As the world continues to embrace digital technologies and blockchain solutions, it is clear that cryptocurrencies are here to stay and will continue to play a significant role in the global financial landscape.
