Ryan Reynolds Light-Hearted Joke on Lawyers Amid Blake Lively and Justin Baldonis Legal Battle
Ryan Reynolds, the star of the hit film Deadpool, recently made headlines as a panelist at Stagwell’s Sport Beach during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France. While promoting his Welsh football team, Wrexham AFC, Reynolds joked with an audience member, saying, “I’ve been around lawyers. You can walk up here and grab it,” as he handed over a bottle of water. This light-hearted remark comes in the midst of a legal battle between actor Jeremy Baldoni and actress Blake Lively. On Wednesday, US District Judge Lewis Liman ruled that Baldoni’s lawyers can request access to texts between Taylor Swift and Lively. The ruling follows Lively’s request for a protective order to prevent Baldoni from accessing her communication with the 14-time Grammy Award winner. In court documents obtained by Page Six, Lively claimed that the messages were “not central” and “irrelevant” to the case. In April, Baldoni’s legal team sent Swift a subpoena, but they withdrew it in May after Swift’s team provided them with the information they were looking for. Swift’s representative provided a statement regarding the situation, stating that Swift never set foot on the set of the film, was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, and did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release. Baldoni claimed in court documents that Swift ambushed him during a meeting at Lively’s New York City apartment regarding It Ends With Us. He also alleged that Lively called the singer one of her “dragons,” referencing Game of Thrones, in a text message. The legal drama between Lively and Baldoni began in December 2024 when Lively filed a lawsuit alleging that Baldoni sexually harassed her on the set of their film It Ends With Us. Baldoni, who also directed the film, denied the allegations and filed a $400 million countersuit in January 2025. However, earlier this month, his lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds was dismissed by the judge. Baldoni’s legal team has until Monday, June 23, to file an amendment.

Ryan Reynolds's playful jokes about lawyers in the midst of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’S legal battle offer a much-needed bittersweet relief, lightening up an otherwise serious public spectacle with his trademark wit.
