According to translations by Twitter user Genki_JPN, after naming all the current platforms Final Fantasy 16 is supported on, Yoshida said, "All that's left is Nintendo." Maehiro echoed this statement, expressing his desire to "conquer it" when it comes to developing games on Nintendo's new system. Currently, the Switch 2 can utilize backward compatibility to play Final Fantasy entries released for the original Switch console, including the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection and Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age. While third-party launch window titles for the Switch 2 have struggled compared to first-party games like Mario Kart World, the exception has been Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. Given that Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy 16 are both graphically demanding titles, it stands to reason that the latter could potentially run on the Switch 2 after some optimizations.
