Prototype for Canceled LEGO Minecraft Game Has Surfaced

After negotiations between Mojang and LEGO fell apart in 2012, the Minecraft spin-off title Brickcraft ended development, but a dedicated group of fans has now found a playable prototype build of the collaboration game. Brickcraft would have transformed the world of Minecraft into a LEGO-inspired realm filled with the familiar pieces of the building-block toys, and in spite of no official release ever coming to fruition, a usable version of the game has finally surfaced.

Back in the early 2010s, developer Majong entered discussions with LEGO to produce a crossover video game, but Majong disagreed with the brand restrictions put in place by the toy company, so development on the title was terminated. For years, players sought out a playable build of the forgotten Minecraft spin-off title with little success. As of June 2025, the search has resulted in an exciting find for fans who have been eagerly awaiting news of the long-lost Minecraft and LEGO collaboration.

Spotted by GamesRadar, on June 26, the Omniarchive community website announced that it had finally discovered a playable build of the infamous Brickcraft. Omniarchive is a fan-created platform that is dedicated to cataloging and preserving all things Minecraft, and the group of players behind the site has offered audiences a first-ever look at a June 2012 build of Brickcraft. The fans estimate that the provided version of the game is a build that was in development up until a month before the title's cancellation and could potentially be one of the last builds ever used before work on Brickcraft was formally terminated. In spite of some performance hurdles, the existing build is said to feature a functional Minecraft multiplayer game mode, and mods have already been developed to make the prototype more accessible to interested fans.

While Brickcraft never officially came to be, LEGO and Minecraft have collaborated on a number of physical LEGO sets, including various minifigures and item pieces.
