While the "Finals" logo has not been seen on an NBA court since 2013, it has made a few cameos in recent years, including on the Cleveland Cavaliers' court in 2017 and as a featured logo on the COVID-19 bubble court of the 2020 NBA Finals. However, the league has been trending away from such pageantry in other ways, such as moving Finals patches from the front of player jerseys to the back and eliminating player introductions and the national anthem during broadcasts. Despite these changes, many have noted the division between the league's effort to dress up the Finals and its newer event, the in-season NBA Cup tournament. The Cup features custom-painted courts for every team and a giant trophy at center court, which Silver explained was easier to plan for in advance. He also noted that there was a perception that the "Finals" logos added some slipperiness to the court, which may have contributed to the decision to discontinue them. With the demand for the return of the "Finals" logo clearly present, it remains to be seen if the NBA will find a way to bring it back.
