2025 NBA Mock Draft 4.0: Boston Celtics Trade for Late Lottery Pick, Scouting Reports on Top Prospects

As the 2025 NBA Draft approaches, trade rumors are heating up, and several teams are considering moving up in the lottery. One of these teams is the Boston Celtics, who currently hold the 14th pick. In this week's mock draft, we simulated how the draft board might fall if the Celtics were to make a move.

The Celtics have been linked to Coward as a potential late lottery pick, and in this mock, he's the choice for the 14th pick. Coward has quickly developed into a prospect with a valuable 3-and-D skill-set, thanks to his passing vision and blossoming handle. He's a player with high upside and could be a key contributor for the Celtics in the future. For more on Coward, check out my one-on-one interview with him.

Oklahoma City (via Miami): Noa Essengue, F, Ratiopharm Ulm

If the Thunder win the NBA Finals, they will go down as one of the greatest single-season teams in sports history. With such depth, they need a home-run swing in the draft. Essengue is a toolsy forward with a fluid handle, dynamic finishing package, and highly versatile defense. However, his long-term upside hinges on his jumper clicking. If it doesn't, his defense must reach a level that prevents coaches from keeping him off the floor.

Memphis Grizzlies: Nique Clifford, G, Colorado State

The Grizzlies made a big trade for Desmond Bane, acquiring four firsts plus a swap (and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Cole Anthony). The big question now is what this means for Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. Will the Grizzlies go full rebuild? Or could these picks be flipped into a player who helps them: Jaylen Brown? Kevin Durant? Regardless, if the Grizzlies keep this pick acquired from the Magic for Bane, Clifford would make perfect sense. Clifford is a tough-as-nails wing who defends multiple positions, crashes the boards, and scores from everywhere.

Minnesota Timberwolves (via Detroit): Asa Newell, F, Georgia

The Timberwolves were blown out by the Thunder in the Western Conference finals, and it's time for the franchise to take a long, hard look in the mirror at what's missing. Anthony Edwards is only 23 and should conceivably get better. But the frontcourt is aging and getting pricey. That's why Newell is the choice here. Newell has springs in his legs, regularly slamming lobs and swatting shots. Even though his lack of discipline reflects his youth, his energetic style suggests he'll someday become a highly versatile defender.
