Chrysler’s Pacifica could be dethroned as best-selling minivan this year
Although SUVs and pickup trucks continue to dominate in America, minivans are seeing quite a resurgence in 2025, based on the latest sales figures for the first half of the year. Of the six minivans currently on sale in the country, five have reported big gains over 2024. Besides this, the top 3 best-selling minivans from Toyota, Honda, and Chrysler are locked in an impossibly tight battle after the initial six months of 2025. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers for some of the best family vehicles on sale.

First-half sales are looking great for minivans. Year-on-year, the Toyota Sienna saw sales rise by 60.5%. There were also year-on-year gains for the Honda Odyssey (+27.4%) and Kia Carnival (+52.2%).
Chrysler, which reintroduced the Voyager as a more affordable minivan, has already sold 7,421 units of these in 2025. The Volkswagen ID.Buzz was also not on sale in the first half of last year, but has so far logged sales of 2,465 units in 2025.
The only minivan that saw a decline in sales for the first half of this year is the Chrysler Pacifica, with sales down by 29% year-on-year.
Top 3 Minivans In Tight Sales Race

Looking at exact sales figures, the Chrysler Pacifica was the best-selling model in this segment in 2024, being the only minivan to hit over 100,000 sales. So far in 2025, the Chrysler now finds itself in a close battle with its two Japanese rivals.
With 52,672 units sold in 2025 so far, the Toyota Sienna is currently the best-selling minivan. It’s followed by the Chrysler Pacifica (50,335) and Honda Odyssey (50,033). At this stage, it’s impossible to predict which one will come out on top once the year is done. After the top 3, we have the Kia Carnival on 33,152 units. The ID.Buzz and Voyager are the only minivans to sell under 10,000 units.

It appears that strengthening competition is eating into Pacifica sales, even though the Chrysler remains popular. Kia added a more efficient hybrid version of the Carnival for 2025, while the Sienna and Odyssey received a string of updates, such as updated touchscreen displays. Chrysler’s own Voyager may also have impacted Pacifica sales.

But what could be driving overall minivan sales? Have consumers finally caught on to the fact that unless you’re towing or doing some proper off-roading, these vehicles are unsurpassed for family duty? Or is it something else?
In May, Jessica Caldwell, head of insights for Edmunds, suggested that tariffs had to do with rising minivan sales this year.
“Buyers in this segment are planners, and with tariffs in the conversation, some may be pulling the trigger early — helping fuel the Q1 sales surge,” said Caldwell when speaking to Road & Track. "Minivans might not stir the soul, but in 2025, they’re making a strong case for themselves.”
