MindsEye Actor Comments on Game’s Rough Launch

FelicityGames2025-06-287850

Actor Alex Hernandez, known for his roles in Mafia 3 and, most recently, MindsEye, has commented on the latter's disastrous launch and what the gaming industry needs to change moving forward. MindsEye is the first title from development studio Build a Rocket Boy, but the game's launch has been a colossal failure due to the sheer number of bugs and glitches. While the studio is now aiming to rectify many of these issues, the game's lead actor is speaking out.

With former Rockstar Games president and Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies at the helm, Build a Rocket Boy was under a tremendous amount of pressure to deliver on its first title. Unfortunately, MindsEye got off to a rocky start even before it was in the hands of gamers. In early previews, many blasted the title as a "broken mess" due to its overwhelming number of issues. But instead of delaying the game and promising fixes, Build a Rocket Boy's co-CEO fed into fan conspiracy theories that the negative reaction to MindsEye was a paid effort by other studios.

Shortly after fans began to get their hands on the game, it was clear that there was no paid effort from other studios. MindsEye was just a buggy mess. The studio's first title has been the talk of the internet for the past couple of weeks, but for all the wrong reasons. Now, the game's lead actor, Alex Hernandez, who previously portrayed Lincoln Clay in Mafia 3, is opening up about the controversial launch. In a new interview with Check It TV (via The Gamer), Hernandez commented on MindsEye, saying, "To me, as a consumer and a gamer, there's a shared frustration." He goes on to question why a company would release something that isn't ready yet, before explaining what he believes needs to change throughout the entire industry.

MindsEye Actor Wants More Game Delays

MindsEye has become the worst-reviewed game of the year, which means there's no denying that it probably should have been delayed. Unfortunately, games launching too soon and being infested with bugs and stability issues are becoming all too common, and Hernandez thinks that needs to change. "As a gamer, as a consumer, I don't love that. I don't love that model," the actor said in regards to games such as MindsEye and Cyberpunk 2077 releasing in unfinished states. Hernandez goes on to state that he hopes developers will "set a precedent" of "delaying until [a game] is ready."

Although the actor did state that he "had a blast" working on MindsEye, he also doesn't believe its messy launch should be forgiven just because it's Build a Rocket Boy's first game. "I don't care who you are. I don't care if this is your first game or if it's your hundredth game. If it's glitchy, it's glitchy. Glitches aren't good. People don't want glitches in their game," the actor said.

There's no denying that MindsEye shouldn't have launched in the state that it's in, but the studio is aiming to rectify some of its most severe issues as quickly as possible. Since its launch earlier this month, MindsEye has already received multiple updates that aim to improve the overall performance on consoles and PC, as well as fix some of its bugs and glitches.
