Mario Kart Tour is getting new content for the first time in nearly two years. The new update will add new outfits and karts to try out, so fans who have moved on from the mobile game may want to revisit Mario Kart Tour.
Mario Kart Tour launched in 2019, bringing a variation of the iconic franchise to mobile phones for the first time. It arrived following the launch of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the original Nintendo Switch. While the game had a bit of a mixed reception, the new tracks in Mario Kart Tour proved popular enough that Nintendo integrated some of them into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Mario Kart World: 6 Best Changes From Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Despite being part of the same series, Mario Kart World introduces some key changes from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that enhance the overall experience.
Posts 1Mario Kart Tour sunsetted new content back in 2023, recycling existing tours in the time since. However, now in 2025, it's on the verge of receiving a new update that will add two new outfits for Mario and Luigi, as well as four new karts. The update is arriving to celebrate the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2's Mario Kart World, and will run from July 23 through August 6, 2025. For the update, Mario and Luigi don matching Famicom mechanic outfits, which players may recognize from Mario Kart World. Four karts are also making a debut in the game at the same time.
Will Mario Kart Tour See More Updates?
Outside of these additions, Mario Kart Tour seems to still be repeating past content. The team rolled out a schedule for the mobile game, with Sunshine Tour being followed by Vacation Tour and Summer Tour, which have previously been available in the game. Chances are that this refreshed content is designed to bring existing Mario Kart Tour players to Mario Kart World on the Switch 2. Continuing to update Mario Kart Tour with new content could be counterproductive and take away attention from the new console.
CloseMeanwhile, Mario Kart World has been performing quite well for Nintendo, with its physical sales hitting milestones. However, not everyone has been happy with the game in recent times. Players resorted to review bombing Mario Kart World following the 1.1.2 update, complaining about changes made to the game's online mode. Other players have asked for things like the Grand Prix from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to return in Mario Kart World. While it remains to be seen if Nintendo will take player feedback into consideration with future updates to the game, at the very least, players who don't own a Nintendo Switch 2 yet have something new to look forward to in the Mario Kart franchise.
