Janelle James reveals she auditioned for “Glow”, says she's 'salty' she didn't get the role

Janelle James nearly stepped into the ring for Glow, Netflix's hit dramedy about the world of women's wrestling.
The Abbott Elementary star revealed in the latest episode of Kelly Ripa's SiriusXM show Let's Talk Off Camera that she auditioned for an unspecified role in the series but did not get it, and as a result, has not watched a single episode.
"Are you somebody that can watch things you didn't get?" Ripa asked.

Another thing I was excited about that I auditioned for once was Glow. Do you remember that? The female wrestling."

"I really wanted that role," James said. "It was for one of the female wrestlers and we had to make up an '80s rap and perform it in the audition, and also do a fight scene with ourselves. I did this rap and then I did a round kick. And I remember leaving that audition like, 'Nailed it.' And did not get that role."
James added with a laugh, "I have not watched one second of that show. I'm so salty. Maybe I'll watch it today."
Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the Emmy-winning series centered on Alison Brie's Ruth Wilder, an out-of-work actress who finds an unexpected chance at stardom through the world of women's wrestling. With the help of a washed-up director played by Marc Maron, she works alongside a group of other female Hollywood misfits hoping to reinvent themselves. It ran for three seasons, between 2017 and 2019, and also starred Betty Gilpin, Sydelle Noel, Jackie Tohn, Gayle Rankin, and Sunita Mani.

The comedian has received three Emmy nominations for her work since the show debuted in 2021, including at last year's award ceremony.

"I always thought I would be a huge touring [act]. I wanted to be Chris Rock. I wanted to be Richard Pryor. I want to be Amy Schumer.
