The Rise of Crypto Treasury Companies: A New Frontier in IPO Activity
In an interview with Schwab Network’s Diane King Hall on June 16, John Jannarone, Editor-in-Chief of IPO Edge, discussed the state of the IPO market and its upcoming activity. The interview highlighted the increasing presence of AI companies and crypto currency in the market, with a range of investment methods for the latter, including blockchain companies like the recent IPO of Circle Internet Group (NYSE: CRCL).
Jannarone also discussed the rise of a niche class of publicly-traded companies that serve as proxies for major tokens like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. Public companies such as Tesla and Coinbase have leveraged cryptocurrencies as a hedging tool or passive reserve for some time now. However, the new generation of crypto-embracing companies has put digital currencies at the center of their capital and value-creation strategy. These “core strategy” companies include Strategy (MSTR), Sol Strategies Inc. (HODL.CN), DeFi Development Corp. (DFDV), Upexi (UPXI), and Metaplanet Inc. (MTPLF).
Due to the current macro environment related to tariffs and interest rates, Jannarone said bankers expect more IPO activity in the fall but especially in 2026. He referenced the views shared by prominent speakers during the Princeton CorpGov Forum held on May 22.
