General Lee Jump Comes With Plenty Of DramaSomerset, Kentucky was the scene of a General Lee jump through a fountain seen around the world recently. While the stunt itself was amazing, some drama followed right after which makes the whole event just that much more interesting.
An original, genuine General Lee fails to sell at auction.
The event was part of Somernites Cruise, a big car meet that was raising money for victims of the recent tornados. Northeast Ohio Dukes were called in to stage the Dukes of Hazzard jump using an old Ford Crown Vic mocked up to look like the General Lee.
For dramatic effect, the car jumped over the fountain in the middle of town, the water dyed blue. It’s truly something amazing to behold.
Immediately after landing, the replica General Lee veered toward a series of traffic barriers separating the road and sidewalk. As it scaped along the barriers, a cameraman who was filming the jump hoisted himself and his camera out of the car’s path, narrowly escaping becoming one with the twisted metal barreling down on him.
What’s more, one of the GoPro cameras that was mounted to the General Lee replica was ripped off when it contacted the barriers. In the ensuing chaos, footage from another mounted GoPro appears to show a young boy pick up and quickly pocket the fallen camera.
Thankfully, Northeast Ohio Dukes say they were able to get the GoPro back thanks to “our loyal fans of Somerset and the Pulaski County law enforcement agencies.”
The group says the boy’s father threatened them with physical violence when they released the video. It sounds like witness accounts along with the video footage was enough for cops to persuade the guilty party, whomever it might be, to return the ill-gotten property.
Ultimately, the wrecked General Lee replica was raffled off, with the proceeds going to a good cause.
