Florida Highway Patrol has yet again won the national Best Looking Cruiser competition, this time with its C8 Corvette. It’s the third year in a row the law enforcement agency has claimed the title, making people wonder if anyone can beat the insurgent dynasty.
The city of Flint, Michigan is auctioning off forfeited muscle cars.
The mid-engine American sports car was revealed as part of the FHP fleet back in April of this year. Wearing the distinct black and tan paint scheme that’s illegal for anyone to copy, it’s not just a public relations vehicle but instead is used as an actual cruiser.
Before anyone gets riled up about government waste, know that FHP didn’t buy the C8 Corvette. It was seized from a drug trafficker, then repurposed for law enforcement use.
Currently, it’s stationed at Fort Myers in southwestern Florida. Speeders and other violators need to keep a sharp eye for the cruiser because it can do 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds and hit a top speed of 194 mph, so outrunning it is unlikely.
The interior has retained the supple red leather upholstery, but there’s a computer and mobile printer mounted for duty purposes.
The Best Looking Cruiser competition is put on every year by the American Association of State Troopers. Every state submits photos of their entries, then the public gets to vote. While some go for rather traditional images, FHP got a little wild, having a cheetah from Zoo Miami pose with the sports car.
FHP made it clear when it revealed the C8 Corvette that while it’s a patrol vehicle, the flashy sports car will still be used for some public outreach programs. Entering it into the Best Looking Cruiser competition is just the start, with the Chevy likely used at public events, including leading parades, in the future.
