While nobody wants to think about the worst-case scenario before taking a flight, where you sit could actually improve your chances of survival if something does go wrong.
According to Rebecca Schneid of Time, two experts agreed that sitting next to the wings of an airplane will give passengers a better chance at surviving a crash.
Flight expert Steve Wright noted that when an aircraft goes down, "it's usually nose first," which makes the front of the airplane less safe.

Aviation attorney Jim Braucle agreed.
“Structurally on the airplane, the strongest part is obviously where the wings come in,” Braucle said.
Braucle noted that sitting in the exit row can also be a benefit, as that area is reinforced to ensure "the door doesn't get deformed, so people can escape.”
The row also provides more space and that can be a plus in the event of an accident.
“As stuff starts collapsing and people fall back in their seats... I know it's not much, but I think those inches count,” he said.
