Dune: Awakening Breaks Funcom Sales Record with One Million Players in Two Weeks

Since its launch on June 10, 2025, Dune: Awakening has achieved a remarkable milestone, amassing a total of one million players on PC. The survival game, which gives the popular sci-fi franchise Dune a new spin, has become the fastest-selling title developed by Funcom.

Nearly three years after its reveal at Gamescom 2022, Dune: Awakening arrived on Steam to a positive reception. On the launch day, it crossed 140K concurrent players and within six days, reached its current peak of over 189K concurrent players on the platform. This strong popularity was accompanied by notable praise from critics, leading to a score of 81 on OpenCritic.

The American developer not only broke a personal record but also saw the game race to a big sales milestone. It was revealed that over 66K players had perished in sandstorms, over 120K building pieces had been used, and more than half a million Ornithopters had been crafted. Moreover, BeneGesserit was revealed to be the favorite starting mentor of Dune: Awakening players, whereas Mentat turned out to be the least-picked mentor.

Despite the game's success on PC, there is still an air of mystery around when exactly console players might get to play the game. According to a recent statement, Dune fans on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S shouldn't expect to get their hands on the MMO title until 2026.

To keep the momentum going, Funcom is now focused on delivering updates that address player concerns surrounding the new Dune game. In a recent Q&A session on Reddit, the studio shared that a new update containing "a lot of" quality-of-life improvements was being considered for an early July release.
