In the latest episode of the popular HBO Max series "And Just Like That…," the much-anticipated return of Sarah Jessica Parker's character Carrie Bradshaw to Aidan Shaw's (played by John Corbett) farm in Virginia delves into the intricacies of parenting and the challenges that come with it. The episode, directed by Michael Patrick King, explores the complexities of Aidan's blended family, particularly his son Wyatt (played by Logan Souza), who has a behavioral issue that requires medication.

The episode begins with Carrie spending quality time with Aidan's sons, Homer and Wyatt, after extending her trip to Virginia. While Carrie seems to enjoy her new surroundings, she quickly realizes the challenges that come with being a parent, especially when it comes to Wyatt. The youngest son is not interested in his dad's girlfriend, and his behavior is complex and complicated. Carrie learns that Aidan has put their romance on hold so he can be a full-time parent, and she begins to understand the kind of pressure he is under.

Later in the episode, Aidan's ex-wife Kathy (played by Rosemarie Dewitt) visits with her boyfriend Bob, and they discuss Wyatt's need for Adderall, a medication that helps manage his ADHD. When Carrie tries to talk to Aidan about it, he is not in the mood. Shortly thereafter, Wyatt has an episode where he acts out, and Kathy says this is why he needs the medication. Aidan argues that their son already has substance abuse issues, but Kathy says it's not the same—the pills are a medical necessity because Wyatt has ADHD.

Carrie returns to the guest house and Aidan apologizes for asking her to stay and says he felt guilty that she came all the way to Virginia. She gives her own apology, saying, "When you said that you needed to be down here and without me, I didn’t believe you. I let you think that…but I didn’t really believe you needed to be here. But now I do. You need to be here. And without me." Aidan asks if she’s breaking up with him, but she says no. Instead, she hands him a key to the Gramercy apartment and says, "Use it when you need, but don't use it out of guilt. I'm so glad I was here…because I’ve been playing [the waiting] game this whole time. I haven’t even bought furniture. So, no more games. I love you. And I’ll be there."

The episode is a powerful one that accurately shines a light on how difficult it can be to raise a child with special needs. King explains that they wanted to pay tribute to the complication of having a family and make sure it reflects people's real reality. He also notes that while they often see the troubled or irresponsible teen on screen, more rare is a teen with a real, serious behavioral issue and how that impacts the entire family.

Looking ahead, King says that while Carrie made a trip to Virginia in season two, this season they thought "the story is definitely her going there." He adds that while they don't know how much more they could learn from another trip, the family is prominent in this entire story arc and will continue to be a part of the show going forward. The filming took place in a pastoral setting with a red barn, lake, and farm to give viewers a sense of Carrie going away to a different place.

In conclusion, "And Just Like That…" continues
